As part of my Project Life journey, I’m going to post updates once per month regarding my progress on goals and practices. In January, I focused mostly on being more social and getting organized.
Going back to my list of 13 practices for this year, I focused on organizing, decluttering, reading, and adventure during January. I organized the kitchen pantry, am *almost* finished A Storm of Swords, and planned lots of adventures for the coming months! I also tried to be more adventurous and spontaneous, which led to spending a lot more time out with friends doing things like discovering a brand new beer garden called the Aline Street Beer Garden (you must check this out if you live in NOLA!), trying new beers like the Oyster Stout at the Abita Pub Crawl, having TONS of fun at the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus parade (and seeing the REAL Chewbacca, Peter Mayhew!), and attending some excellent shows such as Jersey Boys, Avenue Q, and The League Live. Wow, did I really do all of that in January?? YES, and it was AWESOME! I also got to spend a lot of time with family. So, I have to say CHECK to my Social aim for January!
Physical: Honestly, I struck out on this one this month. I did not exercise and I ate pretty badly most of the month. I did get a lot of decluttering done of my physical environment, though. I cleaned out the living room and organized most of the kitchen. This one was a trade-off for January. [To follow up on my Getting Healthy & Happy post, the Jillian Michaels 7 Day Body Cleanse didn’t work at all for me. I actually gained 2 pounds doing it. I think you can accomplish the same, or an even better, result just by drinking a lot of plain old water. Unpin that one from your Pinterest boards!].
Intellectual: I would grade myself a B here for this month. I did read a lot of my book, A Storm of Swords, and I wrote a lot of blog posts, but I didn’t get much else done in terms of writing. And I definitely didn’t write something every day, which is my true goal.
Spiritual: This one has always been a struggle for me. Not praying, as that is something I do more than once per day, but actually de-stressing and meditating. The goal is to meditate for 10 minutes every day, and I failed miserably. I don’t think I meditated or de-stressed once during the entire month.
Social: This is where I really excelled in January. A++! I reconnected with some old friends, hung out a lot with family, and got out of the house a whole lot more.
The Best Laid Plans…
Other things that I said I would do in January:
- Planning: I’ve always been an excellent planner, and January was no different. I met all of my planning goals for the month, including creating a Home Management Binder (look for the continuing series of posts!), Project Life binder (another series!), monthly meal plan: Meal Planner, and monthly cleaning schedule.
- Organizing: I met all but one of my organizing goals this month. I got the kitchen and my mail/bills system down pat. I didn’t get a chance to set up the donation station, mostly due to finances. Hopefully, I can get that done in February or March.
Overall, I am pretty proud of my January! Onward and upward. I’ve decided to focus on de-stressing and the spiritual aim in February, along with the practices of meditation, relaxation, and balance. The ultimate goal is to de-stress for 10 minutes every day, slow down, breathe, and take things in stride. This is something that is REALLY tough for me to do because I’m such a Type A personality, so I’m going to need support!
Finally, I’m pretty excited about all the upcoming events for The Huber Life:
Next Week: SAN FRANCISCO BEER WEEK! OH YEAH!
February 23: MS Walk with dad and stepmom
February 27: Flashdance at Mahalia Jackson
March 1: Randy Travis concert at IP Casino Biloxi with mom and mother-in-law
March 21: My 30th birthday!
March 20-24: Tennessee Williams Festival
April 13: My 30th birthday party!
June 27: The Package Tour in Houston with the girls
The next few months are going to be awesome! I have to say, I am thoroughly enjoying the Year of the Huber 🙂 Until next time,
